ASUP Strike Nationwide April 6th, The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has declared that on April 6, 2021, it will go on strike across the country. This, the union claims, is due to the government’s “culture of indifference” when it comes to issues concerning the technical education sub-sector.

Anderson U Ezeibe, ASUP President, said after the union’s 99th National Executive Council meeting at Hassan Usman Polytechnic in Katsina that this decision was based on six main factors affecting polytechnic education.
Non-implementation of the ASUP/FG agreement from 2010, non-payment of wages, and arrears of the new minimum wage in some state-owned polytechnics, he said, are among the problems.
The union also identified a number of conditions under which the planned April 6 strike could be called off, including the implementation of the 2014 NEEDS Assessment report, the reconstitution of Polytechnic Governing Councils, and the release of Promotional areas in federal Polytechnics.
